Dear Beach Bird:
Why don’t I ever see baby seagulls?
From Amy, age 9, Margate
Great question! The truth is, you do see them. Baby seagulls are actually the same size as adults. It’s true – they grow up that fast!
You see, us birds need to grow up quickly – we’ve evolved to grow to adult size quickly so we can compete for food and better defend ourselves against predators. You’d only see tiny hatchlings (newborn seagulls) if you found a seagull’s nest.
